British Video Game Voice Actor
Great game characters need to feel real from the first line.
I’m James Brown, an award-winning British male voice actor recording video games, characters and interactive performances from my professional studio in Devon.
My natural voice is warm, clear and contemporary RP, but character work lets me push much further — from grounded and believable to heightened, comic, sinister or outright villainous.
Award-Winning British Game Voice Actor
In 2026 I won the One Voice UK Award for Best Toy/Physical Game Performance.
Character and game work is one of the areas I enjoy most because the performance has to do more than sound good. It has to belong in the world of the game and make the player believe the character.
Character Voices for Games and Interactive Projects
I record voice performances for:
- video games
- mobile games
- PC and console titles
- interactive experiences
- toys and physical games
- character dialogue
- NPCs
- villains and antagonists
- narration and in-game storytelling
- tutorials and instructional characters
- trailers and promotional game content
Whether the character needs to feel natural and grounded or much larger than life, I build the performance around the script, world and audience.
For related character-led work, see my Animation/Character Voiceover page.
British Accents and Character Range
My natural accent is contemporary RP, but I also work with a range of British character voices and regional flavours.
Depending on the brief, a performance might be:
- authoritative
- sinister
- dry and understated
- comic
- warm and paternal
- eccentric
- aristocratic
- rougher or more grounded
- energetic
- restrained and realistic
I particularly enjoy villains, antagonists and characters with a darker edge, partly because they tend to get the best lines.
Performance That Fits the Game
Good game voice acting is not just about creating an unusual voice.
The performance also needs to work within the scene, respond to the character’s circumstances and remain consistent across multiple lines and sessions.
Before recording, I look at:
- character background
- relationships
- emotional state
- scene context
- intensity
- pacing
- pronunciation
- consistency across takes
If reference material, concept art or previous character audio is available, that can also help establish the world and performance.
For longer-form storytelling, see my Narration Voiceover work.
Live Direction and Remote Recording
Live direction is available if your director, developer or production team would like to listen and guide the performance during the session.
This can be particularly useful for character work where subtle changes in energy, intention or emotional intensity can significantly affect a line.
Sessions are recorded from my professional studio in Devon.
Professional Game Voice Recording
All recordings are produced in my professional treated studio in Devon.
I can provide:
- clean broadcast-quality audio
- WAV or MP3 delivery
- individual files where required
- alternate takes
- live remote direction
- fast turnaround
- consistent character performance across sessions

Video Game Voice Acting FAQs
Can you perform different British accents and character voices?
Yes. My natural voice is contemporary RP, but I also work with a range of British character voices and regional flavours depending on the brief.
Can you record multiple characters for the same game?
Yes, where the characters are sufficiently distinct and the production requires it.
Can I direct the session live?
Yes. Remote direction is available so your director or production team can guide performance, tone and character choices during the session.
Can you provide alternate takes?
Yes. Alternate takes can be recorded where required, particularly for key character lines or different emotional interpretations.
Can you maintain the same character across later sessions?
Yes. I keep reference material and performance notes where appropriate to help maintain consistency across follow-up sessions.
What kind of game characters do you particularly enjoy?
I enjoy a broad range of character work, but villains and antagonists are a particular favourite — especially when the writing gives them something interesting to play with.
