Voiceover Rates & Costing

Every project is different — from a national TV commercial to an internal training module — and so are the rights and reach attached to it.

To make things simple, my quotes are always built on two parts:

1. Basic Studio Fee (BSF)

This covers the recording session, professional editing, and delivery of broadcast-quality audio from my studio in South Devon.

My BSF is £250.

That includes:

  • Studio time and performance
  • Editing, cleaning, and mastering for broadcast or online use
  • File delivery in your preferred format (WAV, MP3, etc.)
  • A round of style revisions or minor script changes

2. Usage Fee

This reflects where, how long, and how widely your voiceover will be used — much like music licensing.

It ensures fair value based on audience reach and campaign duration.

Here’s how it typically breaks down 👇

📺 Commercials (TV, Radio & Online Paid Ads)

Used to promote a brand, product or service to the public.
Fees depend on the medium (TV, radio, online) and territory (local, national, international).

  • TV: BSF + one off transmission fee of £250 + usage based on number of TVR’s (impressions) purchased for campaign
  • Radio  BSF + usage based on number of stations and length of campaign
  • Online Paid Ads (YouTube pre-rolls, Meta, etc.): BSF + usage based on campaign duration and number of platforms

Example: A 30-second TV commercial running for 3 months in the UK = £250 BSF + £250 one off transmission fee + usage based on the number of impressions purchased in the media buy and if it’s a local or national campaign

📱 Social Media (Organic vs Paid)

  • Organic social posts (non-paid, on your own company channels):
BSF + £150 usage fee (flat rate).
  • Paid social ads (boosted posts or sponsored campaigns):

BSF + usage based on campaign duration and number of platforms.

In short: if it’s boosted, it’s paid usage. If it’s just posted on your brand feed, it’s organic — with a simple £150 usage fee.

💻 Website-Only Use

If your voiceover is used purely on your website — for example in a homepage explainer or brand film — it’s classed as corporate use and usually falls under BSF only.
If the same video is later used as a paid ad, usage fees then apply.

🏢 Internal, Training & E-Learning

Voiceovers for internal comms, staff training, or e-learning modules aren’t public-facing, so they don’t incur broadcast usage.

  • Internal or training content: BSF only (charged per project or finished minute, depending on scope)
  • E-Learning projects: charged per word at £0.25

Example: A 1,200-word e-learning script = £0.25 × 1,200 words = £300 total

🎮 Animation, Games & Characters

Quoted individually based on the role, session length, and distribution. Typically includes BSF + usage for the platforms or territories involved.
